We are in New York City in the year 1995. Here we meet Mark Williams, a 46-year-old astronomer at New York City's Planetarium. Unfortunately Mark feels lost. His father has recently passed away and afterwards Mark lost out on a job that he really wanted.
The divide between Mark and his wife, Anne, is getting bigger, as he feels a closer connection to the infinite, starry sky than to her. He also doesn’t believe in fate or divine intervention in any way. However, the universe has other plans for him.
After one of his classes, Mark meets Angela, a 28-year-old single mother with whom he develops a secret relationship. But when a catastrophic event rips through their lives, Mark is forced to re-evaluate his life, his faith and his place in the universe itself. But being this skeptical and feeling so completely lost, how does one do that? What will it actually take - and at what cost?
